Six and Three in 23.

The year began with predictable energy. After the last several years, the bar has been placed low. Expectations are minimal, and predictable routines are commonplace. Thankfully, the steadfastness of the routine is not without pleasant faces and conversations from time to time. So, without further adieu, let’s take a look at the first three months (or the first quarter of the year for the business minded) of 2023.

January ushered in the new year. In this new month, new employment was being completed. New employment, in a new field, with a new business, new people, in a new area of life that was, like the year, new. The job was simple. I was helping a security company prepare the Super Bowl. It was, like so much these past six years, a short-term budgetary fix. Below is a photo of me wearing their recommended shirt. I thought I was a good sport. I was only there until February for the Super Bowl. I also had to buy two different pairs of shoes. In general, it was an interesting experience, all things considered.

February arrived. The Super Bowl arrived, and my departure with the security company arrived. In this month, the pattern of the past six years continued. I sent more resumes to companies that had openings. I heard back from almost all of them. And, as I have over the last six years, what I heard was rejection after rejection. “Thanks for your interest, and best of luck with other opportunities.” It has been the most peculiar period of my life. It is without comparison.

In times both good and bad, thank god for scotch and cigars.

March arrived. This month, my niece and I both had birthdays. She continues to grow further into a teenager, and I continue to grow further into an old man. The pattern of resume sending continued. The rejection pattern continued. And the month slipped past with little fan fair. Below is a photo of my nieces, nephews, and I on my birthday.

Overall, the first three months each had at least a single unique factor. They also shared some similarities. For example, the weight training continued. I started attending yoga group classes at the gym. Below is a group photo after one of the classes completed. I continued to explore the art museum downtown. I golfed with my father on occassion. I’ve continued to write to my favorite online European Pen Pal lady friend. I continue to wait on my money which will then take me to Europe. I continued my study of Europe, travel, and sailing. Plus, Rey the Dog and I continued our hikes and walks.

In closing, the first three months of the year didn’t produce anything magnificent. It was a few new things. By and large, the predictable routine of the last six years prolonged. Thankfully, nothing tragic occured in my personal life. It has been mundane, exhausting and obnoxious but not unbearable or intollerable. It just is, after six years, what it will be until I get my god damn money. And then, good readers of this blog, I will close this awful chapter and begin a much more enjoyable chapter overseas.

Thanks for reading. If you had anything interesting occur in the first three months of the year, feel free to comment below.
